Peter Kajaks

Born in the heart of Montreal and raised in the depths of Ottawa’s downtown, Peter Kajaks knows the intricacies of urban art, fashion, and the city. Those three pillars of Peter’s life are from where he draws inspiration for his work with Superfluous. With his first love being the art of graffiti, Peter has become a high caliber artist in that field, and has been building his collection of artworks for several years before the onset of Superfluous. His sharp eye and insightful imagination allows for his artistic vision to quickly come to life through whatever medium, whether it be on an original canvas or the fabric of a piece of clothing. “The realm of fashion intrigues me with the challenge of using a three dimensional canvas, that you can not only look at, but feel through your mind, body, and soul,” says Peter, of his progression from canvas work to clothing. Art, to Peter, is “very similar to language, yet has a deeper connection to individual thought and expression.”

This ideology when it comes to the connection between the language of art and the medium of fashion ultimately sparked the creation of Superfluous and its new-age approach to apparel production. From canvas to fabric, Peter’s creative mind is always thinking ahead. Between preparing pieces for Superfluous on an ongoing basis to simply streaming his creative thought from pen to paper, Peter continues to be a well-rounded artist who seeks to bring his worldly inspirations and the Superfluous creations together.
